Oh what a beautiful life….
About now, everyone has said everything there is to say about Lena Horne. Thousands mourned at her New York funeral this past Friday morning. A couple of years ago, while watching ‘A Cabin in the Sky‘, one of my favorite oldies, I thought about Ms. Horne and wondered what she was doing since she’d stopped performing. I googled her birthday and realized that she was pushing 90 years of age.
Honestly, I believed that I had prepared myself for this day already ’cause I’m not mourning, not at all. This woman lived to be the blessed age of 92. She, along with Dorothy Height, both enjoyed the beauty of making their names great and establishing a legacy on this earth before moving on to their heavenly lives. It is now up to us who appreciate Lena Horne to ensure that her accomplishments are remembered among our children. As a tribute to Ms. Horne, I’ve added one of my favorite Lena Horne performances from the Black classic, Cabin in the Sky.
